Television vs Photography

Photographs may be more memorable than moving images, because they are a neat slice of time, not a flow. Television is a stream of underselected images, each of which cancels its predecessor. Each still photograph is a privileged moment, turned into a slim object that one can keep and look at again. Susan Sontag On Photography, 1979

Why take photos?

I take photographs to see what the world looks like, photographed. – Garry Winogrand

Film and Music

“I would say that there is no art form that has so much in common with film as music. Both affect our emotions directly, not via the intellect. And film is mainly rhythm; it is inhalation and exhalation in continuous sequence.” Ingmar Bergman
